Helping the wider Community

'Providing opportunities for people to change their lives and advocating social justice.'

Top ranked reasons for people to volunteer include:

  • Helping others
  • Learning and developing new skills
  • Enjoyable
  • Help with future  employment
  • Have fun

Principles of volunteering:

  • Volunteering benefits the community and the volunteer
  • Volunteering is always a matter of choice
  • Volunteering is not compulsorily undertaken to receive pensions or government allowances
  • Volunteering is a legitimate way in which citizens can participate in the activities of their community
  • Volunteering is a vehicle for individuals or groups to address human, environmental and socials needs
  • Volunteering is an activity performed in the not-for-profit sector only
  • Volunteering is not a substitute for paid work
  • Volunteering respects the rights, dignity and culture of others
  • Volunteering promotes human rights and equality

Volunteers are an important and integral part of our operation.  Without the willingness of volunteers to donate their time and skills, Anglicare WA would not be able to deliver the wide range of community programs currently operating.

National Police Clearance

Volunteers are required to provide references and must hold up-to-date National Police Checks.

Working with Children Checks

In some instances volunteers are required to provide Working with Children Checks.

Training

Volunteers will be given all the orientation, induction, training, support, health and safety considerations, communication, involvement and recognition as would be expected from an organization which highly values and respects their commitment to our organisation.

Health and Safety

Workplace health and safety is important in ensuring the workplace environment is both safe and encourages sound health practices.  Volunteers are required to adhere to the Health and Safety Policy outline in the Anglicare WA Policy and Procedure guidelines.

Confidentiality

Anglicare WA at times handles confidential information.  Volunteers are required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement and are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of all privilege information, both written and verbal.  This applies whether the information involves a paid staff member, volunteer, client or other person, or partner agency.

Not-for-profit-Corporate or Employee Volunteering

Corporate or employee volunteering is a commitment by a commercial organization to encourage staff to volunteer in the not-for-profit sector.  It ranges from individual volunteer effort through to team or whole-of-company involvement.

Companies need stable, healthy communities in which to prosper and many recognize that volunteers play a key role in developing and maintaining health communities.
