Testimonials

"As an existing employee of 15 years plus, I applied for a position as Enquires Officer for the new Family Relationship Centre (FRC) when Anglicare WA won the tender in 2006 to open the first FRC in Western Australian. I was successful and was very excited to be in at the beginning of this very important new service. My role soon grew into my current role as Senior Family support Officer.

There are so many rewarding factors for me in my role including the dedicated, passionate people I work with and the clients that we see. It is very rewarding to hear a client say "You are the first person to listen to me and not fob me off to yet another telephone number". I believe I work with the best team in Anglicare WA. I have been encouraged to grow and develop my position by feeling supported by senior staff.

I have seen many changes over the years and have stayed so long because of the excellent conditions we work under - also the fact that we can Salary Package as a not for profit organisation!

A typical day for me would be liaising with clients either on the phone or in person, liaising with the Family Advisors around schedules and client needs, making appointments and importantly researching and updating information of services that we can pass onto our clients.

If you are looking for a position at Anglicare WA you would need great communications skills, be passionate about the work we do, be kind to yourself as well as others, have a great sense of humour, keep smiling and when can you start??"

Liz Hedley - Senior Family Support Officer

"I started with Anglicare WA on a casual basis as a drivers offsider collecting the donations. After a while I was give full time employment and with my knowledge of the role, I was soon made Supervisor and now Collections Coordinator.

What I love about my role is the fact that my opinion is valid, not only with my staff but throughout the agency. I also love that what we do is helping those in need and not lining some fat cats pocket!

One of the biggest benefits of working with Anglicare WA is meeting new people that share the same vision and goal as you and also the different personalities throughout the agency. Of course the salary packaging is a huge bonus.

I think I have stayed with Anglicare WA because everything I do at work is making a difference to those less fortunate. The working conditions are great and the job is never the same, it always changes. My working day consists of dealing with the public and you never know what might happen! It is also rewarding when it all comes together. My advice to you if you are looking to join Anglicare WA would be to be patient and always put yourself in the other person’s shoes."

Peter Vann - Collections Coordinator

"Prior to working for Anglicare WA, I had been a stay at home mum for 2 years. Not sure of what direction to take as I considered returning to the paid workforce, the Albany women’s Centre had advertised for a part time Support Worker. I plucked up the courage and applied. I consequently commenced with Anglicare in April 2000. After restructuring I applied for was granted a newly created Senior Support Worker position, then moving onto Case Manager and finally my current role as Coordinator. I have also been offered the position of co-facilitator of the Changing Tracks Program!

For me the rewarding part of my role is the pleasure of being granted trust from someone less fortunate than myself and to help them see a light at the end of the tunnel. My actions, words or deeds have empowered and led them to see that there can be a different outcome. To me, there can be no better feeling that waking up each day knowing that your life’s work has real meaning and makes a difference to someone every single day.

I have been at Anglicare WA for a number of years and this is because I have had the opportunity and encouragement to grow and develop my skills. There are always opportunities to extend my knowledge.
My role is unpredictable, hectic, support for my staff, representative of Anglicare WA and very challenging – just the way I like it! In an agency of this size, there are doors that you never knew existed just waiting to be opened. Just like a family, if you give you too can receive."

Sonya Bell - Coordinator Albany Women’s Centre

"After completing my final university placement for the Step 1 Street-work program a vacancy was advertised within the team. I was successful and here I am today! I had a brief interlude to go on a snowboarding adventure across Canada and the USA – it was there I realized just how great Anglicare WA is to work at. I missed the laughs that you have with colleagues that become your friends and it was an absolute pleasure to come back her to Perth and the Youth Services. The people I work with in Youth Services and throughout the Agency are wonderful and willing to have a laugh and chat and put up with my mischief on a daily basis! This is truly a credit to the staff and volunteers here.

Being on the streets working with the homeless and at-risk young people around the inner city can be very rewarding as you’re providing support to a population group that experiences very little support in their lives.
One of the advantages of working here is the support from Coordinators and direct Managers. It’s comforting knowing they are there to support us all the way. We also have opportunities for having some fun and getting to know other staff i.e. staff conference, Op Shop Ball, footy tipping and birthday celebrations with great food - always a highlight for me!

No two days are ever the same for a Youth Worker in the Step 1 Street-work Program. I could either be on the street where we work from the Mobile Youth Resource Centre (Step 1 bus) with homeless and at risk young people in and around the inner city area or providing one on one intensive support with case managed clients.

Anyone looking for a job in Youth Services would love the fun place with great people who enjoy working within the wider community. The Youth Services area is a colourful, vibrant, energetic and alternative place to be - whether it is the staff, office space of the amazing work we do with young people."

Lynn Crasto - Youth Worker

"Whilst working in a different role within the organization I felt I needed a change so when the opportunity arose for me I transferred to the accounts department.

The team in Finance are great and everybody gets on well together. When I first started in this position, everyone was so helpful and patient and didn’t complain when I made mistakes.

There are heaps of benefits working here but I’d have to say it’s the people that work here – they are a great bunch of people and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. There are opportunities to transfer to different areas to broaden your skills and salary packaging is a huge advantage.

I have been at Anglicare WA for about 11 years and feel like Anglicare is part of my extended family. I have a job that allows me to work at my own pace with flexibility and opportunities to improve work methods which make me feel valued by my team leader and Manager. My day consists of computer data entry, process cheques and direct bank payments, banking and reconciliation and generating reports. By treating everyone as you would like to be treated you will be rewarded with a great job."
