Changemakers challenges, empowers and supports young people to address the issues that concern them in their own lives, in their communities and in the world around them by joining with others in positive action to create change.
Changemakers begins with the interests of young people and what they want to do and offers them the opportunity to design community projects.
The team focus of Changemakers enables young people to work and learn together. It is about young people generating ideas from within their peer group, to help shape the kind of society that they will grow into as young adults. It is an approach that encourages peer support between adolescents who are maturing into adults.
Our purpose is to promote and support educators (and partners) to develop quality initiatives of Community Based Learning that result from the leadership, initiative and values of young people; we call this Young Person Led Community Involvement.
This approach is relevant to young people of all abilities and within various educational and community settings such as school, college, training schemes, labour market programs, youth services, the workplace and the broader community
Changemakers WA is about supporting your work with young people and assisting schools to achieve great things in the world outside the classroom as a highly productive and accessible learning resource. It is also about assisting young people to become confident and independent members of their communities by assisting the development of skills in the areas of citizenship, personal development, employability and learning.
Changemakers WA provides a model for facilitating Young Person Led Community Involvement, to teachers and community based educators.
