Young Parent's Support Unit
The Young Parent's Support Unit (YPSU) is a support and advocacy service for pregnant and parenting 'at risk' young people. The service involves individual parenting support through advocacy, outreach and informal counselling.
Outreach involves individual support through personal visits, where Youth and Family Support Workers are able to meet with the young pregnant or parenting people in their homes and other locations, to provide referral to appropriate services and to provide advocacy and support.
The service aims to assist young parents to meet the needs of their children and to avoid the need for contact with the Child Protection system.
YPSU also hosts regular social events; these groups provide an opportunity for young parents and their children to get together, have fun and meet others. Monthly newsletters are also provided to young parents. These include articles such as parent and baby health and wellbeing, information about what's on, as well as recipes, tips and new baby arrivals.
The Young Parent's Support Unit supports'at risk' pregnant and parenting young people, aged up to 25 years, within the metropolitan area.
