Welcome to Fostering Futures

Fostering Futures gives children and young people who are unable to live with their family a chance to thrive in a safe, secure and stable home. In 2008 more than 3,000 children in West Australia were placed in foster care. Fostering Futures need foster carers now more than ever.

Being a Foster Carer is both challenging and rewarding, at Fostering Futures we offer full support and training to compliment your existing skills, and we pay allowances to allow you to meet the child's needs as fully as possible.

Have you got what it takes?

Fostering a child may be the greatest challenge you'll ever undertake. It could also be the most rewarding. Often applicants have been considering fostering for some time, we know that it is a big decision and we also know it is worth it, foster care really can make a great difference to children and young people. Fostering Futures believe that the training and support we provide will enable you to undertake this challenging task and play a key role in creating the best opportunities for children and young people in West Australia .

You could become a foster carer if you have:

  • Time, energy and enthusiasm for young people
  • At least one spare bedroom in your home
  • An understanding that it can take time for a child in care to respond to you and your family
  • A flexible approach, adaptable attitude and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A positive outlook and ability to be build on small steps forward
  • Respect for individuality and diversity and a willingness to speak up for young people's rights
  • Willingness to learn from your own and other people's experiences and to attend regular training sessions and carer group meetings.

Fostering Futures have a range of programs that provide care to children and young people in the metropolitan area of Perth , Western Australia .   These programs include:

Teenshare

Teenshare is a foster care program for children between the ages of 12 to 17.   The program offers:

  • Emergency care (at short notice, from overnight to a week)
  • Short term care (one to six weeks)
  • Medium term care (six weeks to six months)
  • Long term care (as long as the care is required)
  • Respite care (planned weekend care)

Specialised Foster Care

Specialised foster care is a program for traumatized children with very high needs.   Foster carers are paid a higher level subsidy to be available to meet the child's needs.
