Children's Domestic Violence Counselling

What is the programme about?

Individual therapy and group work is available for children up to and including the age of eighteen and the non-violent care giver to achieve a safe living environment for children.

Children's Family and Domestic Violence Service is for children who:

  • Have been exposed to family and domestic violence (even if they are in another room when the violence occurs)
  • Have experienced physical or verbal violence themselves
  • Have experienced emotional abuse and neglect
  • Have been exposed to or experienced some or all of the above and are beginning to show signs of imitating violent or submissive behaviour.

Individual Counselling

Counselling is available to children and their non-offending family members.

The purpose of counselling is to create a neutral, secure and supportive environment to enable children to explore their feelings surrounding violence and abuse. We provide a safe space to explore practical solutions to common problems that your child has experienced.

The counselling environment is very important to enable us to work with children. Our rooms are equipped with toys, art and craft materials, story books and other essentials to enable us to use different styles of therapy including play, narrative, art and behavioural therapy.   The service aims to ensure that the counselling experience for children is safe, positive, supportive, and helpful (and often fun!).

Group Work

We provide education and strategies to address behaviour which may be the result of being exposed to or experiencing violence or abuse. We have no expectations for your child to tell us their story. We are there to support them and yourself, on their journey. The group programme enables children to develop a strong sense of self and provides an avenue for them to release their emotions in a safe and protected environment.
