Family Relationship Centres

What are Family Relationship Centres?

Family Relationship Centres provide assistance to families at any stage of their lives. The Centres are for all families, we offer family relationship information and support and family dispute resolution services for families experiencing a separation.

Staff working in the Family Relationship Centres are qualified professionals experienced working with families and the problems associated with family separation.

The staff assist families in many ways such as:

• Providing information about family relationships, separation and connecting people with services appropriate for their individual needs
• Providing Family Dispute Resolution where parents/families can discuss issues relating to their children and develop parenting plans in the best interests of their children
• Assisting parents and families to work towards improving their communication and reducing conflict
• Assisting parents with enhancing knowledge and skills to assist themselves and their children with separation issues
• Providing child-focused and child-inclusive practices, and assisting parents to focus on the needs of children

Resources available at Family Relationship Centres include flyers and booklets from services, computers to search for information, phones directly connected to the Family Relationship Advice Line, and staff to provide consultation and family dispute resolution.

Family Dispute Resolution

Family Relationship Centres offer Family Dispute Resolution with registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners. We help separated families to sort out their disputes, particularly in relation to the children. The Family Dispute Resolution process involves a number of sessions including:

• Intake and Assessment, to identify the issues within the family and determine if Family Dispute Resolution is suitable 
• Attendance at a Child First educational group
• Attendance at a preparation for Family Dispute Resolution (pre-FDR) session
• Attendance at the joint Family Dispute Resolution session
• For many families, children will also be included in the Family Dispute Resolution process through meeting with the Child Inclusive Practitioner 
  

Property Mediation

Property mediation is a confidential and voluntary process that requires both parties to be willing to participate and to agree to provide full and frank disclosure to each other of all assets, liabilities and other financial resources.
