What is a scam?
A scam is when someone tries to deceive you into giving away your personal or financial information so they can steal from you.
If you see a message or page that feels wrong or makes you unsure, please don’t click on any links or share your details.
- Pause. Take your time to look closely at the email or message. Regardless of whether you are reaching out for services or making donations, scam accounts may try to make themselves appear like a real organisations.

How to spot a scam

For security purposes, Anglicare WA will never ask for your bank account, credit card details, passwords or login details directly through social media, email or text messages.
If you receive any message asking you to respond with your login information or bank details, this is likely a scam.
Scammers will often use words that make you feel like you have to act quickly and have less time to think things through. E.g. "URGENT", "immediate action required", "ASAP".
Anglicare WA will never pressure you or make you feel unsafe. We give you time and space to make decisions.
Scammers may reach out with the promise of spontaneous rewards such as cash prizes. Once you respond they may them ask for your personal information in order for them to send you your prize money. This is a scam.
Anglicare WA does not make promises like free money or prizes through social media.
Scammers will often try to copy the name and looks of a real organisation to seem legitimate. Look closely for details such as incorrect spellings or strange email addresses or website URLs.
If it doesn’t come from our official website or trusted staff, it’s likely not from us.
What You Can Do
- Keep your personal information private.
- Use strong passwords and don’t share them.
- Report fake pages or messages to Facebook.
- Let Anglicare WA know if you see something suspicious.
- Talk to someone you trust if something doesn’t feel right.
