Young People are the Future of Our Community.

Through our School Ambassadors program and ongoing activities, we work together with our school communities to build a better future. We provide students with the opportunity to engage in social justice issues, educate them about social disadvantage, and empower them to make a positive difference.

What is the School Ambassadors Program?

At Anglicare WA, we believe young people have the power to create change.

Our School Ambassadors program gives students in Years 10 and 11 the chance to learn, lead, and support others in their community. Schools across Western Australia nominate students to become Ambassadors, helping them explore important issues like youth homelessness and social justice in a safe and respectful way.

Throughout the year, Ambassadors hear from guest speakers and participate in educational activities, raising their awareness of community needs and social justice. Ambassadors also join in events like the Anglicare WA School Sleep Out and the Christmas Giving program, with many schools running their own activities as well.

With help from Anglicare WA, Ambassadors share what they’ve learned with their school communities and raise money for our Street Connect service, which supports young people experiencing homelessness.

This program helps students grow as leaders while showing kindness and care to others.

Ambassador Journey: Programs & Opportunities

Ambassador Launch

To begin their journey, Ambassadors from schools across WA come together for a special launch event. This is a chance to meet other students, connect with Anglicare WA youth workers and staff, and learn more about their role. Ambassadors also get to see the Street Connect bus, which helps young people in need.

Advocacy Masterclass

Anglicare WA believes everyone deserves to be heard. In the Advocacy Masterclass, Ambassadors learn how to advocate for themselves and issues that are important to them. They hear from inspiring guest speakers and take part in activities that build their skills in advocacy. This helps students understand how they can support change - both in their own lives and in the wider community.

Learn about Youth Homelessness.

The School Sleep Out is the biggest event of the year for our ambassadors - and it’s a night they won’t forget.

More than 500 students from over 20 schools come together to 'Sleep Out' and learn about youth homelessness.

This experience exposes students to some of the complexities of homelessness that they may have never considered before, helping them understand some of the challenges faced by some young people in a safe and supported way. It’s also a key fundraising event for our Street Connect service, which helps young people.

Guest Speakers and School Sessions

Anglicare WA staff are available to visit schools and lead learning sessions about important social issues.

These sessions are designed to be respectful, inclusive, and engaging. Students hear real stories, ask questions, and build their understanding of topics like homelessness, mental health, and social justice.

These experiences help students grow in empathy and learn how they can support others in their community.

Awareness, Advocacy and Fundraising

Ambassadors are encouraged to use the skills they learn in the program to raise awareness and support for issues that matter - especially those seen in Anglicare WA’s work with young people. Students can take part in existing projects like the Christmas Gift campaign, or they can create their own ideas to help others. Whether it’s a fundraiser, a school presentation, or a social media campaign, every action makes a difference.

Ambassador Alumni

After finishing high school, Ambassadors are invited to join the Anglicare WA Ambassador Alumni group. This group helps young people stay connected and continue their journey in advocacy and social justice. Alumni can take part in volunteering, networking, and learning opportunities as they grow into adulthood. It’s a way to keep making a positive impact while building strong, supportive connections.
