Get ready for a night of creativity, fashion, and fun at Anglicare WA's MEH Gala! Inspired by the Met Ball, this event promises to be quirky, sophisticated, and celebratory.
More than 100 invited guests gathered on Thursday to celebrate the reveal of Anglicare WA’s new annual ball theme: The MEH Gala.
Two years since more than 500 guests went “to the Chapel” for the final Op Shop ball, guests took over the Holmes A Court gallery to mingle with models in upcycled designer outfits while slow-fashion designer aka artwear left some brave guests with their own piece of one-of-a-kind fashion.
The name plays on the Met Gala, the Manhattan Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s annual haute couture fundraising event.
Anglicare WA Philanthropy Manager Bec Stott said The Meh Gala will take the DNA of the Op Shop ball and evolve into a firm fixture on Perth’s event calendar.
“MEH is the Op Shop Ball’s cool, sophisticated, quirky older sibling, Ms Stott said, “oozing with the promise of generosity, frivolity & delight.”
“In the spirit of the annual star-studded Hollywood event - the Met Gala - MEH is set to be both an homage to and tongue-in-cheek parody of today’s art, fashion, and culture, with the added “special sauce” of its most essential ingredient; a hand firmly on its heart and putting the ‘fun’ in fundraising,” said Ms Stott.
“For MEH’s debut in 2025, we will be reimagining – and sending up - the Met Gala’s themes from previous years. Subsequent editions of the event will follow suit, with each year bringing about the arrival of an outrageous new thematic concept for MEH to reimagine.
In line with what Op Shop Ball-goers know and love, MEH-goers will be encouraged to DIY, upcycle and invent their outfits for this profoundly thematic night of all nights, interpreting the Met Ball’s themed iconic looks in their own personal, edgy and extravagant way.
The inaugural MEH Gala will be held on the 20th of September 2025 at the Grand Ballroom, Crown Perth.
Funds raised will go towards continuing the vital work of Anglicare WA in the community.
