In just 12 months, No Place for Poverty has grown into a movement that is making poverty visible, understood, and acted upon across WA.

From advocacy and community events to arts partnerships and lived experience storytelling, we have shown what is possible when people come together for change.

As we celebrate this milestone, we honour the stories, energy, and momentum that have shaped the movement so far. Below are highlights from our first year.

A National Media Moment

Our nationally syndicated opinion piece, “Behind the mask, I am the hidden face of poverty in WA,” reached audiences across major outlets including the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, WA Today, Brisbane Times, and MSN Australia, putting lived experience front and centre in the national conversation.

Advocacy With Impact

Through events, targeted initiatives, and new advocacy tools, we amplified the voices of people experiencing poverty and brought their stories directly to policymakers, business leaders, and community influencers.  A key initiative was the Governor’s Roundtable, featuring a host of prominent Perth leaders alongside federal and state ministers, local governments, and community sector leaders.

Community Development

The movement reached communities across WA building understanding and inspiring action through numerous workshops, events, meetings and supporting local solutions to poverty.  We engaged with seven local governments, presenting workshops for both staff and community and had over 650 visitors to our event stalls.  We've supported individuals to bring their own solution to poverty to life including efforts around employment and innovative awareness-raising initiatives.

Education & Partnerships

We shared learning resources that build empathy towards and awareness of poverty across 60 schools.  We partnered with Barking Gecko Arts, Black Swan Theatre Company, Awesome International Arts Festival, and Shifting Perceptions to deepen understanding through creativity and storytelling.

The People Behind the Movement

At the heart of No Place for Poverty is a passionate network of people—our Lived Experience Advocacy Group, Steering Committee, volunteers, and partners across the community, arts, education, and media sectors.

No Place for Poverty is stepping into another year of action, continuing to unite people behind a simple but powerful message: that poverty is solvable, and that every person deserves the security and dignity of a life free from it.

Whether you’re a community member, policymaker, or someone who wants to stand for justice and dignity, you have a place in this movement.  Join a workshop, share our resources, partner with us, or lend your voice to help create a future where poverty has no place in WA.
