From 1 July 2026, Anglicare WA will deliver the Safe at Home service in Albany, one of eight new locations opening across regional WA. This expansion is part of the WA State Government's $11.5 million commitment to family and domestic violence services across the state.
Safe at Home helps victim-survivors remain safely in their homes after separation from the perpetrator of violence. The service can provide and pay for risk assessments, safety planning, security upgrades and intensive in-home support.
For many, this means being able to stay connected to the things that matter: their support networks, their workplaces, their children's schools, and community groups. These services are fundamental to helping victim-survivors rebuild their lives rather than starting over somewhere new, often in isolation. Funding for each Safe at Home service is also increasing from $25,000 to $30,000 a year, so more people can access vital support.
Supporting change in men's behaviour
The State Government will also extend funding for Albany's regional men's behaviour change programs for a further two years. Delivered by Anglicare WA, these groupwork intervention programs include Changing Tracks and Caring Dads which provide evidence-based interventions for men who use or have used coercive, controlling or abusive behaviour toward their partners or family.
Progress on the Albany Refuge
Work also continues on the Albany Refuge, delivered by Southern Aboriginal Corporation and Anglicare WA with support from the Commonwealth Safe Places Program. Once complete, the refuge will provide a safe and trauma-informed accommodation for women and children escaping family and domestic violence. The refuge is expected to begin operating later this year, with full completion anticipated in mid-2027.
Comments attributed to Philippa Boldy, Anglicare WA Chief Operating Officer:
"The expansion of community-based family and domestic violence supports through the Safe at Home program in Albany is a powerful step forward in ensuring people experiencing family and domestic violence can access safety, stability, and support without having to leave their homes or communities. It reflects our shared commitment to putting victim-survivors first, strengthening local responses, and working together to prevent violence before it escalates. We are very pleased to see this investment in Albany, helping build a safer, more resilient community for everyone."
Anglicare WA joins seven other organisations delivering new Safe at Home services across Broome, Yanchep, Serpentine/Jarrahdale, Karratha, Mandurah, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie.
