As part of the WA Government's targeted cost-of-living support, the WA Rent Relief Program, which we administer in conjunction with Vinnies WA, has been extended until 30 June 2026.
The announcement was made shortly after new data revealed Perth is the least affordable city in Australia for renters, underscoring the critical need for continued support for households under pressure.
Anglicare WA CEO, Mark Glasson, and Vinnies WA Executive Manager of Community Engagement Services, Andrew York, addressed the media at a joint press conference at Vinnies WA Ozanam House Head Office in Canning Vale.
Impact of the WA Rent Relief Program
Since the program began in November 2023, Anglicare WA and Vinnies WA have supported thousands of Western Australians facing rental stress. As of 2 December 2025, program outcomes include:
- More than $16 million in total rent relief payments
- 3,699 households supported, including 4,057 adults and 3,559 children assisted
- Averaging approximately $4,346 per household
Glasson said the extension provides vital stability for families as they head into the holiday season and beyond.
Comments attributed to Mark Glasson, Anglicare WA CEO:
“We hear the personal stories and testimonials of people saying it has absolutely changed their lives. The whole idea is to give people some free air, so they can think about their situation without that continual burden of the threat of losing their home.
“While we really welcome this extension, it’s clear the housing situation that led to the creation of the WA Rent Relief Program has been getting worse. We need to make sure we do everything we can to keep people where they are, including keeping Rent Relief in place beyond 30 June 2026 until the rental market vacancy rate balances between 2.5% and 3.5%."
Anglicare WA looks forward to engaging with the State Government in the lead‑up to the next State Budget to ensure families experiencing hardship receive the certainty and support they need in the months and years ahead.
