News Family & Domestic Violence

#ActTogether is a powerful community-driven short film created in the WA community of Derby, which shines a light on family and domestic violence from a prevention perspective.

Last Wednesday, Anglicare WA proudly hosted the #ActTogether film launch at Luna Palace Cinemas in Perth. It was wonderful to see over 100 community members, advocates, and leaders coming together to show their support for the project and its creators.

#ActTogether is a powerful community-driven short film created by the West Kimberley community of Derby and filmed on location. The thought-provoking film sheds light on the complexities of family and domestic violence, amplifying real voices and lived experiences from the region.

The screening was followed by a panel discussion hosted by Philippa Boldy, Director of Services at Anglicare WA. The panel included local Derby advocates who featured in the film, April Wilson and Sam Duinker, as well as service professionals Mia Cotton and Abigail Gibbs. We thank our panel members for sharing their experiences and insights into what it truly takes to #ActTogether in order to address harmful behaviours from a prevention perspective, as well as the importance of reinvesting in our communities in order to break the cycle of family and domestic violence.

Part of 16 Days in WA – Stop Violence Against Women

This event is part of 16 Days in WA, a statewide campaign running from 25 November to 10 December, inspired by the global 16 Days of Activism. This year’s theme Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play Your Part calls on all Western Australians to challenge harmful behaviours and attitudes, and help build a safer, more respectful community for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event a success. Let’s come together to listen, learn, and #ActTogether. In doing so, we can create a safer, more respectful Western Australia.
